My heart belongs...

to San Francisco with this girl.

I got an unexpected email a few weeks ago from a dear friend from Israel, saying she was added to a conference in San Francisco at the last minute and that she was going to be here throughout the week.  Did I want to get together, to visit? Uh, yes!

I've wrote about Maya before here, here and here. She is pretty amazing and special and worldly. And she wins the award of "friend/family most willing to visit us in the middle of nowhere, USA." Maya is currently working for a mobile security start-up in Tel Aviv, so I'm hoping it's only a matter of time before she in back here full time.

I took off immediately after work on Friday, drove into the city and got to spend 12 pretty special hours with her. I love spending time with my friends from college. There is something so easy and transparent about these friendships. It's just so rejuvenating to spend quality time with a friend that shares a part of your past.
We spent Friday night talking non-stop about life. We took the cable car from Union Square up to Fisherman's Wharf. It was so fun! I was a giddy tourist, she was a seasoned traveler.  We ate better than I've eaten in months. I saw a man with face tattoo's. And a woman screaming in the street. It was all very SF. I pretended to be unfazed.
Maya was scheduled for a 16 hour travel day the next morning, so we made a point to get up early to get in a workout. It ended up being a nearly 2 hour walking tour through all of San Francisco's best sights: Union Square, Pier 39, Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz, Ghirardelli Square, and Lombard Street. 5:30am on Saturday, in the rain = prime time for sight seeing.
And of course, I had the facetime the kids--because GASP I hadn't seen them in 12 whole hours--and we were all SO thrilled to see each other!
All in all, it was great and awesome and exactly what I needed. Thank you, Maya!
